In a goalless draw, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid shared the points, with Messi coming the closest to breaking the deadlock in a magical moment.

Just before halftime, the Argentine took matters into his own hands and built a fantastic opportunity out of thin air.

He took the ball and dribbled his way into the Atletico box, gliding and jinking past a slew of bodies before unleashing a fantastic shot.

Despite this, Messi was denied a goal by Jan Oblak's outstanding goalkeeping.

The Slovenian goalkeeper made a fantastic fingertip save to keep the hosts from scoring.

Messi's first-half dribble was a crowd favorite.

"It Should HAVE BEEN ONE OF MESSI'S GREATEST EVER GOALS!" screamed one Twitter user.

"It would have been a spectacular goal," said another.

"Messi almost scored one of the best goals we've ever seen," a third said.

With 77 points, Atletico remains in first position in La Liga, two points clear of second-placed Barcelona.

On Sunday, Real Madrid will face Sevilla, who are currently in third position with 74 points.
